Ableton: Drop multiple audio files in separate tracks

A quick tip to make your long weekend more productive: When you want to import multiple audio files at once into Ableton Live, you can just drag and drop them. However, they will all be added to the same track, one after the other.

If you want to spread them so that each file gets assigned its own track, there is a simple trick: Just press the Ctrl (or Command on Mac) key while dropping them.

As an example, if you select 8 files and drop them into Ableton without pressing Ctrl, you’ll get one long track made out of these 8 audio clips. If you do the same thing but hold the Ctrl key while dropping them into your project, you’ll create 8 new tracks, each holding one of the audio clips.

Voilà.
